The Purple Pomegranate, a fine craft specialty store, is featuring artwork by local artists Deb Stika, Paula Rindal, Louise Barker, Ruth Lane and Sally Glutting during the month of September. This group of artists has been exploring new directions and creating art for over 8 years together. The show, Directions, is a culmination of translating personal experiences into art form.
Deb Stika’s use of stitch as a new language creates brightly colored pathways on a various backgrounds. She combines paint and hand stitching with a “Zendoodle” style. Paula Rindal’s adventurous approach to encaustics fuses depth and dimension with an Asian flair. Her muted color schemes gives the viewer a chance to absorb the shifting meanings in her work. Louise Barker incorporates fiber in unexpected ways. Her layering of different media results in a textured, organic experience. Ruth Lane combines her expertise in nunofelting with stitch, both by hand and machine. The composition grows from one dimension to three, resulting in landscapes alive with texture and color. Sally Glutting transforms small pieces of fabric, fiber, thread, and beads into a new cloth that is innovative and inventive. Her labyrinth series has been a journey into discovering new ways of expression.
Join us for the opening reception during Whitefish Gallery Night, Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 6-9 PM. The group’s work will be displayed during the opening and throughout the month of September.
