We are excited to have Richie’s artwork in our shop for the month of July!

Richie Carter was born and raised outside of Kalispell, Montana where he instinctively took to the beauty of the surrounding landscape.  In 2012, Richie obtained his Bachelors of Fine Arts in painting from The University of Montana. He studied in Amiens France, Venice Italy, and San Diego California.

Growing up in Montana played a large part in inspiring the subject matter of Richie’s paintings. His fascination with the old masters, from the renaissance era to the impressionists, has all contributed to the continuous shaping of his art. Richie is drawn to the simplicity and elegance of the landscapes around him. He is inspired by the beauty in scenes of everyday life. Working in primarily oil paint, Richie aims to capture the landscapes in a contemporary context.  By observing his subject matter directly, he translates what he sees with his loose expressive brushwork. This allows the viewer to transpose themselves into the stories he creates on canvas.

It is Richie’s hope the viewer will feel a personal connection with his works:

“I hope to create a personal rapport with the viewer, both of us bringing something to the piece.  I allow for space in my work, space to breathe and reflect.  In some of my work, I distill the elements of the landscape in order to lift up and bring attention not only to the subject itself and what it has to say, but also to the tradition of representational painting.  These simple objects of our land are incredibly striking in their own rite.  I find great beauty in it all.”

We hope that we’ll get to see you on Thursday, July 7th from 6-9pm!
