Sally Glutting – Fiber Art – The Purple Pomegranate

The Purple Pomegranate, a fine craft specialty store, is featuring work by Kalispell artist, Sally Glutting during the month of September.Quilts can be everywhere – on a bed, on the wall, on a table, in a window, under a mug or glass of wine, or even outside. Sally Glutting, quilter and fiber artist, believes in putting quilts and fiber art into everyday life. An enthusiastic saver of fabrics, fibers and threads, a collector of little treasures, and a dedicated recycler, she uses her sewing machine, and her little collections to create fun, functional fiber art. The process of transforming small pieces of cloth, fibers, thread, and beads into a new cloth is innovative and inventive. Sally’s art provides a pause, the opportunity for reflection, mindfulness, to look close, read the messages she creates, enjoy the detail, and celebrate the color.

Window Threads by Sally Glutting

Sally goes where the stitch takes her. Nature is a favorite inspiration. Spending time outside everyday whether it is in her garden or some secret wild place of Montana she uses her sketchbook and camera to chronicle the magic and beauty she sees. Then she challenges herself to experiment with fiber, beads, wire and photography as well as fabric to later share with others. Much of her work involves taking fibers and yarns and using the sewing machine to create a new fabric. You will find her early in the morning or late into the evening tucked away in her upstairs studio. What began as one room has now spread to three plus a quilting machine off to the side in the living room! Sometimes she can be spied in her backyard garden as well painting and dyeing new fabrics.
