The Purple Pomegranate, a fine craft specialty store, is featuring work by Kalispell artist, Louise Barker during the month of August. Most of her latest work invites the viewer to look at fabric in a new way. Her dyed silk chiffon and organza panels are dyed, embellished and layered to create texture and depth.

Louise has been working in all facets of surface design for over 30 years. Her work continues to grow as she combines new techniques with old ones. The main reason that she remains interested in dying fabric is to see the unexpected results that happen when you cannot have complete control over a substance or process. Color and texture take on a whole new meaning in this evolvement. “When I create, I try to allow my materials to speak for themselves. My sense of design is tactile, organic. My goal is to marry a balance of sophistication with a sense of nature.”

Join us at The Purple Pomegranate for the opening reception during Whitefish Gallery Night, Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 6-9 PM. Louise’s work will be displayed during the opening and throughout the month of August.
